Also available are guided fishing on private
stretches of the Ruby and Boulder rivers
I was never crazy
about spring creek fishing in the past, preferring instead big
trout rivers for both floating and wading, but I must admit that
I really enjoyed these small private creeks so much, with their
big, sipping trout eating PMD duns and spinners, that I fished
them for my entire 3 day stay, instead of floating some of my
favorite rivers in the area. Hooking and landing a good number
of browns and rainbows over 20 inches on such a small stream is
very exciting! The two owners, Greg Lilly and Bill Kemph,
alternated guiding me and were just terrific, as is their staff;
the best guides in the Dillon/Bozeman corridor. Greg has been in
the business as long as I have, though he is a bit younger, and
comes from the legendary Bud Lilly family!
Our home for the week will be the up-scaled, beautiful, and
impeccably managed Healing
Waters Lodge. During my stay I was not only impressed by the
great fishing, but also by the classic Montana setting of the
lodge, it's lovely gardens and trout pond settings,
knowledgeable polite staff, wonderful Montana gourmet food and
matching wines. The dinning room and kitchen are in a separate
building with high ceilings, large fireplace, fishing library
and large windows in view of the trout pond and gardens.
Janet Lily, along with her husband, Greg, and Bill, manage the
resort and Janet is also an excellent chef and gardener who
created and maintains the amazing gardens. Much of the food I
ate was picked daily from her garden.

The rooms are spacious and cozy, with amenities you only find only
in the very best lodges. White terry cloth robes, fresh flowers
from the gardens that surround each building, and chocolate
snacks are only a few of the extras that are tended daily in
your room. There is outside large hot tub/Jacuzzi over looking
the gardens, a workout room with equipment, plenty hiking and
jogging trials. I have been fortunate enough to stay in some of
the most renowned fishing lodges in the world and feel that
Healing Waters is right at the top! Spouses will also enjoy this
most relaxing lodge. So if you are inclined to bring your
significant other non fishing partner along call me for the
reduced price.

NOTE:
As with my other Montana
trips, Greg and Bill have agreed to include evening guided
fishing to caddis hatches on this trip, for an even longer
fishing day (This is a real plus as Montana lodges, including
HWL, and guides, normally fish from 9am to 5pm). We may want to
split long days and short days if you like, I will poll the
group before the trip so that the staff can gear up for our
requirements. The lodge, food and surroundings are so enjoyable
that it may be a good idea to quit earlier one or two days to
enjoy the place - your choice! Greg has also agreed to hold the
lodge and spring creeks for our guests.
