2009 MISSOURI RIVER TRIP for Big Trout on Dry Flies

July 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 2009

The Missouri River , from Holter Dam to Cascade is the “best dry fly river in the world”!  With prolific mayfly and caddis fly hatches and over 5,000 wild trout and rainbows per mile, many of them 20”-25” (click here for photos) with the average trout caught being 17”-19”.  I seldom hook a trout less than 17”.  The bows and browns are incredible, fat specimens (click here for photos)!  Like any river, you must time your visit within the proper time frame.  Our trip is at the peak period of insect and trout activity when it is difficult to get guide and accommodations.  I reserve my guides and accommodations 6-12 months in advance.

This trip always surpasses everyone’s expectations, with an average of 15 wild rainbows and browns per person, per day on dry flies (click here to see photos) and more if your skill level is good.  The Missouri at this time is a ”kick ass” river with sipping trout all day through dark!  Our guides are the best on the river (we float 5 consecutive days).  I also make special arrangements to float until dark, a rarity on the Missouri .  We fish two sessions per day; 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and then again 6:30-10:00 PM to catch the incredible caddis hatches.  My guides receive extra compensation for this service.  Practically every guide on the Missouri is off the river by 6:00 PM , so we have the river practically to ourselves on the evening floats. For the 6th consecutive season I’ve made arrangements so that everyone who signs up for the trip will be able to fish a full day in the “Land of the Giants where you will hook 20”-28” wild browns and bows on dry flies (nymphs or streamers if you prefer), absolutely incredible!  This is an area that is difficult to get to and requires special boats, hence, I am relegated to one boat per day.  The remaining 4 float days are also incredible, floating and wading the ultimate dry fly river, the famous 35 miles of the big Missouri from the tailwater at Holter Dam to Cascade, where you will sight fish for hot browns and bows 16”-24+” on “match the hatch” dry flies (see photos).

The accommodations, food and wine are excellent.  We stay in 2 log cabins right on the river or a lodge overlooking the Missouri , where our chef cooks and serves wonderful breakfasts, dinners and barbeques.  Steaks, chops, roasts, chicken, ribs with all the trimmings, plus homemade baked cakes, pies, muffins – and plenty of it.  So, it’s great fishing, great guides, good food, wine and upscale accommodations.

Trip includes 5 full day floats on the Missouri tail water between Holter Dam and Cascade, MT, also includes one float day in the “Land of the Giants”.  Trip includes: 6 nights accommodations on the river and excellent food, including wines, beer and drinks and riverside lunches, plus ground transportation.

Everything is included except air fare and tips for the guides.  Cost for the 10 floats (2 per day), 6 night, 7 day trip is $3190 (double occupancy).  $1500 deposit.  Balance is due May 12, 2009.  No refunds after the deadline.  We highly recommend trip insurance.

To register, send a $1,500 deposit to Al Caucci Flyfishing, 1250 Winterdale Road, Starlight, PA. 18461 or call Al or Betti at (570)-635-5897 or email alcaucci@hancock.net for more details.
